All those gear ratios are not very conducive to CNC-controlled spindle rpms either, whereas a belt drive with perhaps 2 pulley ratios for a wider torque curve is perfect for VFD spindle rpm control. I plan to eventually upgrade to CNC control, but I'm happy so far with just manual control. Due to belt drive the running noise is very low. (until you start making chips) I chose this instead of G0704 due to the belt drive, but never having owned one I have nothing bad to say about it. Happy milling :)

My Shizouka (cnc knee mill, cnc from the factory no manual handles) has a timing belt to drive the ballscrew on the Z axis, but not on the X or Y axis ballscrews instead, X & Y have helical couplers.

Mar 23, 2018· So we took it apart again and made the belt tight, put a bar between the motor and tool release block to make sure there was not any slack in the belt. Now it runs good at low rpms but above 5000 it makes a loud high pitch whine. Also the belt it rubbing on the bottom of the pulley.
Feb 17, 2020· Coolant contamination on mill spindle belts are typically due to a leak in the TSC system. Some types of coolants and cutting oils can deteriorate the rubber in the belt and can cause failures. Remove the spindle head covers and operate the TSC system. Find the leak and fix it.
