The mine is unique in its low ash content and high carbon crystalline graphite, astounding the world market with the quality of its natural product. Kahatagaha mine is found 90km away from Colombo, in Maduragoda, Dodangaslanda. It belongs to the Kurunegala district in the North Western province of Sri Lanka.

Vein graphite is a true vein mineral, as opposed to a seam mineral (amorphous graphite) or a mineral that is disseminated throughout the ore rock (as in flake graphite). All currently available commercial vein graphite is mined in Sri Lanka.

Ragedara Graphite Mine is situated approximately 30 km north east of the Kurunegala town in the central part of Sri Lanka. The land is well serviced by a road network which connects to Kurunegala-Dambulla main road. The property is approximately three hour drive from capital Colombo and half an hour drive from Kurunegala city.
