Rather than being ground in a concave or convex curve, the grind of the blade is tapered consistently or in a flat manner from the spine to the edge of the blade. A full flat grind goes from the spine of the blade to the edge. You will commonly see full flat grinds labeled FFG.

For most of these factors, it's fairly simple; the knife maker should be able to balance the knife type, the intended use, the blade geometry, the steel type, the grind geometry, the edge thickness, the weight of the blade, the corrosion resistance needed, and the service factor with a client's ability to pay for the blade.

These machines are designed for production knife jobs. We require a minimum of 200 blades to set up and run one knife design. The machine is designed to grind blades in the "hard condition". We are familiar with most common knife steels and in some cases can do more exotic steels. However, they may need to be run in the soft condition.

As you may know, the blade needs to be shaped after a pattern or template. At this stage that template is scribed onto the billet of steel that is to become your knife.
